These healthy recipes all have two things in common: they all include orange juice as a shining ingredient and they all are delicious!
Disclosure: I recently attended a conference partially sponsored by The Florida Department of Citrus. Some of the information presented in this post was shared at that conference.
It’s the end of the week, your fruit bowl is looking weak, but you have some orange juice hiding out in the refrigerator. You're in luck because a 4 ounce serving of 100% juice can count as one of your fruit servings for the day.
But the good news doesn't stop there. While people have long associated OJ with a hefty dose of vitamin C (a timeless truth to be treasured) there's another side to OJ that makes it a health gem. 100% orange juice is the only fruit juice rich in "hesperidin," a polyphenol that has been shown to help maintain a healthy blood pressure and help women as they age with better mental health.
Furthermore, hesperidin appears to be found in richer supply in commercially produced OJ -- a fact that very likely relies on the way the fruit is juiced/processed involving the WHOLE piece of fruit, peel and all. So while grabbing for a whole orange is always a good idea, this may give OJ lovers another reason to feel good about that morning glass.
I personally think OJ is delicious all by itself, but if you aren’t into chugging it down gulp by gulp, there are plenty of ways to incorporate it into dishes, from breakfast to dinner or dessert. Check out these recipes and many others on Healthy Aperture.
