A quick trip down the grocery store aisle will show you that there is no shortage of protein bars on the market. Hundreds of companies have created their own versions that they market to everyone from busy moms to high-level athletes. While we don't believe that protein bars are necessary for everyone, we do think they can have a place in some diets. 

What we dislike, however, is the number of crazy ingredients, fillers, sugar substitutes, etc. that can be found in these store-bought varieties. If you're going to include protein bars in your diet, we highly encourage you to make your own! 

There are tons of recipes available to give you a starting point and many are easily customizable so you can adjust to fit your own flavor preferences. You can choose to add your favorite protein powder or rely on other protein sources like nuts and seeds.
