[Trend Spotlight] Top 10 Food Trends Driving Restaurant Customer Loyalty

~Janet Helm, MS, RD

There’s no doubt that many of today’s food trends are inspired by innovative chefs in the restaurant world. The new dishes we’re trying out at home -- and blogging about or pinning on Pinterest -- may have originated in a restaurant kitchen.  So what’s hot on menus these days?

I took a look at a study conducted by newBrandAnalytics that analyzed the online reviews of 100 buzz-worthy restaurants.  The firm studied nearly 150,000 online mentions, at places like Twitter, OpenTable, Yelp, Facebook, TripAdvisor, Zagat, and Urban Spoon to identify what’s trending and driving customers to return to those hot restaurants.  They looked at comments such as “would return” and “can’t wait to come back” based on specific menu items.

Here’s the list of the top 10 food trends driving customer loyalty at restaurants:

1. Scallops
2. Short Ribs
3. Octopus
4. Bone Marrow
5. Kale
6. Duck
7. Burrata
8. Beets
9. Wagyu Beef
10. Sea Urchin

It turns out, many of these trending foods are popular on Healthy Aperture.   You don’t need to eat out to enjoy some of these five-star worthy recipes created by Healthy Aperture bloggers.
