Blog Brulee - Making Your Dreams Come True: 1 Simple Lesson

~by Regan Jones, RD

At this moment one week ago today -- I was sipping coffee, frantically uploading last minute PowerPoint changes, and doing a quick debrief with 3 of my favorite people

At this moment one week ago today -- I was basically living my dream.

And I still am... every day that I review an image for the gallery here at Healthy Aperture, launch a campaign with the Healthy Aperture Blogger Network, post a recipe for The Recipe ReDux, help an RD better understand Disclosure, tweet a recipe for one of my favorite brands and oldest clients... or as it was last week, host a retreat for 25 bloggers to discuss how we all Set Fire To Better Blogs.

Being able to make a career out of doing what you love? It's the stuff sappy infographics are made of, but in my world, it's a reality that I'm grateful for EVERY DAY.

There's so much to recap from Blog Brûlée -- from new information I learned about our various Sponsors, to action items I plan to take here on the blog to help ensure whenever someone's looking for beautiful, healthy recipes Google gives us the green light and says "Hellz yes... this site is the place to go!" to continually embracing the community of healthy food bloggers that are the cornerstone of ensuring the online space isn't just a world of brownies and bacon and bacon-topped brownies (I'll admit I DON'T want to see any of those foods go away, but Brussels sprouts deserve their time in the sun too, you know?) But rather than recap the agenda (you can find a multitude of wrap-up posts in the listing below), I want to share one thought. It arises from both a discussion we had on site, and then a post I was reviewing this morning from Blog Brûlée Alum, Kara Lydon. Here's what Kara talks about in her post:

On site, Marisa Moore asked the question of the group -- "What do you attribute your success to?"

Themes of community, sharing, networking, etc., all came through. And I couldn't agree more. But if I'm honest, THIS -- avoiding the comparison conversation in my own head -- is really at the heart of what started this whole journey. Here's what I told Kara:

I know that most of you subscribe to this blog for the pretty pictures and recipes... and you bet your bottom than I'm SUPER thankful for that. But today's post ends here. With no pretty pictures and no recipes... at least not of food. Instead, it's the picture you're painting in your own mind -- about what success and happiness look like for YOU.

...Not the lady next to you at the gym.

...Not the blogger whose pageviews are higher than yours.

...And definitely not that version of your self that you think will never measure up to success.
