Happy Birthday Recipe ReDux! Can you believe that we're turning 5 years old today?
Five years of bloggers connecting, supporting and sharing one another's creations. Five years of challenging bloggers to create new recipes that showcase why healthy deserves to be delicious, too. Five years of connecting RD- and healthy-living bloggers in a way that had never been done before. And one that might not have ever started if it hadn't been for this beautiful blogger:
Most of you know Gretchen. She's the uber talented force behind Kumquat and the Gluten Free Kitchen here on Healthy Aperture. But what you may not realize is that if it had not been for Gretchen, I might not have ever taken up blogging or realized the need to connect bloggers through a cooking "club" like ReDux.
Background -- when Gretchen and I reconnected after years apart (having worked together on projects via the test kitchens of Cooking Light, Coastal Living and Weight Watchers Magazines) blogs were just becoming "a thing." Gretchen, being the savvy, smart and oh so artistically inclined person that she is, early on felt the call to cook, test, photograph and share. She launched her blog, sent me some kumquat preserves to announce the launch and set the bar for what an RD-blogger with talent and know-how could do.
I. Was. Captivated.
I had a "blog" sitting fairly dormant on my then "work" site (The Professional Palate), but I'd never done much with it... and certainly wasn't sharing photos that made anyone want to eat what I cooked.
Gretchen changed all that. She showed me what a blog "could" be... and then, she showed me with her head-first dive into online groups like the Gluten Free Ratio Rally, how important and powerful it was for blogs to connect with one another.
And so, the ReDux was born. (Of course, it probably goes without saying that all these years of success are also due to my amazing partners Deanna and Serena over at The Teaspoon of Spice.)
When our ReDux birthday rolled around this month, we challenged members to celebrate a fellow member's recipe. I chose to recreate Gretchen's Bircher Muesli into this Hawaiian version for a few reasons -- that muesli is one of the first recipes I recall from her blog and Gretchen lived in Hawaii right after we first lost touch. It's only fitting that I share a new creation inspired after all these years of reconnecting (and bonus: I tried a dish just like this one on my own recent trip to Hawaii).
Thank you Gretchen for what you've meant to me as a blogger, what you've helped turn this blogging community into, and most importantly for your friendship.
And thank you to every member of ReDux both now and over the past 5 years. I can't wait to see what recipes you create the next 5 years!
